Macro photography - the art of small things
For some time, macro photography had almost completely disappeared from the scene. But especially in recent times, one can increasingly observe how the world of macro photography is once again captivating many people. And yet, even today, many people still wonder what is actually meant by such photographs and how they work.
So let's first clarify what a macro shot actually is. This is, of course, a sub-area of photography. The declared aim of macro photography is to perfectly capture small motifs. These can be flowers or insects, for example, that are only a few millimetres or centimetres in size.
Quite a few people assume that this is a sub-area of nature photography. But this is not the case. Even though macro photographs often show motifs from nature.
Nevertheless, a macro shot can also be taken in the studio. For example, you can also find motifs for such shots in a clock or other everyday objects. To put it simply, a macro shot is always taken when the object being photographed is shown on the camera sensor in its real size or larger.
Has everyone mastered the art of macro photography?
Of course, anyone can take macro photos. However - and we have to say this at this point - it requires some photographic knowledge. Beginners in photography will hardly be able to realise useful macro shots.
Perhaps you are wondering at this point why this is so. Well, this is due to the enlargement of the subject. The more the subject is enlarged, the higher the risk of blurring. Optimal picture lighting is also important.
But even though macro photography requires a certain amount of practice, this fact should not deter you from diving into the fascinating world of macro photography.
Which camera for macro photography?
At this point we do not want to recommend a specific camera model. For usable macro shots, you need a camera and a decent macro lens. If you would like to take format-filling macro shots, then you also need a tripod for the camera.
If you want to make sure that your shot is well lit, you should also invest in a flash and remote trigger. If this purchase would exceed your current budget, you can also help yourself with a reflector.
Macro photography with the mobile phone
Especially in everyday life, the camera has been superseded by the best smartphone cameras. Which is not surprising, because who carries a camera and all the necessary accessories around with them every day? When it comes to macro photography in particular, it has to be said that smartphone cameras naturally reach their limits here. But there are now ways and means that make macro photography possible with a smartphone.
There are not only macro lenses for cameras, but also for smartphones. These are attached to the smartphone camera either with the help of a magnet, a clamp or a rubber band. When buying, however, you should be aware that not every lens is suitable for every smartphone. When buying, you should therefore also pay attention to the compatibility of the holder with the smartphone.
When using the macro lens, you should bear in mind that you need to get quite close to the object to be photographed. This means that macro photography with the smartphone is best when you want to photograph immobile objects or objects that move very slowly.
